The interior of a typical Norwegian wooden church from the 1830s, featuring doors in front of the pews, a two-storey gallery and a pulpit-altar (a characteristic Norwegian feature from the 19th century). The wooden walls and columns are painted teal, whilst the panelling and the walls of the two galleries are painted in a pink marble-effect finish. The columns in the nave and around the pulpit altar are also painted in a marble-effect finish (those around the altar in pink). A pale pink carpet runs from the entrance to the altar. A brass-coloured chandelier hangs from the ceiling. The church is one of the largest in the region and has a total of 700 seats … just to put that into perspective when compared with churches in other countries.

The view from Bernal Heights on a typical San Francisco day. It's summer. In the afternoon. And that means fog covers half the city and threatens to roll over another 25% within the next 2 hours. In thiis photo, the tip of Sutro Tower peeks out from thick bank of fog covering Twin Peaks and Mount Sutro. Above Sutro Tower, there's a bit of clear blue sky... except for one swirl of fog that reaches up and arcs high above Noe Valley. Our house, in Noe Valley, sits 2-3 blocks in front of the edge of the fog. Sometime between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., the house will be in the fog. This is how it goes most days, from mid-May until September and occasionally throughout the other months of the year.

A red admiral butterfly hitched a ride on me during my morning walk. She hopped on at about King and Bay heading west and got off around Spadina and Dundas heading north. Hope she found what she was looking for -- I'd hate to be the wrong bus.

Exactly two weeks ago I hiked Naches Peak Loop at the Mount Rainier National Park with a few online friends. (We then actually had nachos.) This was said to be a mild trail but the ice on the way made it a lot more challenging. Yes, there's still ice in mid June!

Right in the middle of the frame is a heavily textured green and silver variegated leaf. It has two almost perfectly symmetrical, clean-cut circular holes eaten into its upper half. Because of the placement of these holes and the silver-white patterns surrounding them, the leaf strongly resembles a screaming or startled face.
