It was cold and windy and outdoors.

A high contrast, monochrome photo, taken at a bird sanctuary on the eastern shore of San Francisco. While the number of birds at the sanctuary was underwhelming yesterday, there was one particular subject worth photographing: Chris. He is shown here in silhouette, in the distance, walking towards me with camera in hand, on the edge a long, packed dirt path that extends out into the waters of San Francisco Bay. The dirt path has small boulders on each side, and water from the bay just beyond the boulders. The mid-afternoon sun glares off to the left. And there's a long, low slung industrial shed on the right: a recycling facility for much of San Francisco's garbage. The seagulls hang out there, naturally.

Tightly cropped, a carp glides diagonally across the frame from top left to bottom right. It carries a silky wave before it. The leeward side of the wave is shadowed and inky black like the brush stroke of a calligrapher. The carp’s markings are mottled light and darkness and its tail fin arches elegantly away, the calligrapher’s brush stroke personified.

A raptor, the species of which I am unsure, flies above North Lynn. It is a fairly large bird (definitely larger than even the biggest gulls) with a mottled brown body, a vicious looking beak, wings fully extended and a broad tail, which would give it great control in flight, enabling it to hover for extended periods if necessary.

A very red mid-1950s Ford Thunderbird convertible, with stylish chrome trim, smallish rear fins, and a giant spare tire compartment above the rear bumper. Photographed from the rear at a 45° angle behind the right tail light, the car is stunning. It stands there in full glory, shining in the sun, top down, on a dirt patch of ground facing the Pacific Ocean. The white wall tires are a nice, and necessary, touch. Note: there's a bumper sticker on the rear tire compartment that says, in large white letters, I'D RATHER BE SMASHING IMPERIALISM. We all would be, car. We all would be.

Hochkant-Fotografie der Milchstraße. Das Bild ist eingerahmt von Felsen in der oberen linken und unteren rechten Ecke, wobei vor allem der Rechte von unten sanft gelblich angestrahlt wird. Im Zentrum steht das Milchstraßenband, welches sich nahezu senkrecht aus dem Horizont am unteren Bildrand erhebt und über das ganze streckt. Die Strukturen sind deutlich zu erkennen und auch die Farben sind zu erahnen. Am Horizont unten steht ein schmales Wolkenband zwischen gelber Lichtverschmutzung.
