A photo of one of the first blooming plants, a 6 inch tall ephemeral (early and short blooming) in my area; its still mostly closed. Its a delicate but prominent single white flower, structurally like a raspberry but with shiny pure white petals and a dense center cluster of orange reproductive parts. The basal leaves are crumpled in a ball, silvery underneath, veins in patterns, waiting to unfold.

A sunny week & the fig tree is in full bloom 💐

No, those aren’t fruit – they’re flowers. Or more properly, syconia, large numbers of inverted flowers in a green outer layer 🙃

Waiting to be pollinated by tiny fig wasps that crawl inside, then living, reproducing, & in many cases, dying there 🐝

I planted a lot of native #milkweed this year to support the #monarch #butterflies and they were discovered quickly because the milkweed are now full of monarch #caterpillars. This one was found wandering up a stem of mealy blue sage after it and its siblings munched a nearby milkweed down to bare stems.

Aurora over a snowy field. We’ll start with the foreground first, which is a snow field. The field rises slightly before us, meaning I was photographing low and looking uphill. Not totally ideal, but it worked out. There are a few widely scattered spruce trees. These are not very tall and they look, well, unkempt is a good word. They have, more or less, a classic shape, but they it is clear they struggle. There are four prominent ones in the foreground, two on each side, and more in the distance. Really, they are there to break up the foreground and add some depth and scale. There’s a low hill at the horizon on the left. The aurora is, as expected, the star of the show. It’s a green curtain that begins where the snow ends and extends the width of the photograph. Above the green it blends into reds, so we have a classic green to red aurora. There are lots, and i mean lots, of streaks going up and down. There is a brighter are passing left to right through the green, adding depth and contrast to the scene. Overall, the entire scene is dark, but it still works. So, bottom line, we have a green aurora fading into red over a snowy field, with said field have a few spruce trees in it.
