Oracle, and their shitty but first-on-the-market proprietary database systems, is why Ralph Ellison and his spawn get to wreck the #media landscape.
the Ellisons print money with #Oracle. it’s why they’re behind the MAGA enshittification of #CBSNews, #Paramount and #WarnerBrothers.
so they just fired 30,000 workers from Oracle to put all that money into their #GenAI, stochastic-parrot-as-a-service (SPaaS).
the Ellisons bankruptcy will be one of the most celebrated in the #tech world.

TWO THINGS:
1. it’s shocking how well written this terms of service document is. #Microslop uses plain language and proper emphatic formatting to identify what’s important.
2. this was updated on October 24, 2025. since then NOT ONE TECH JOURNALIST has read it; because, not one tech "journalist" has reported that #Copilot IS MEANT AS #ENTERTAINMENT.

THIS IS MADNESS
you know how people have traditionally created custom feeds of information from the web? using apps that parse RSS & ATOM files.
🗣YOU DO NOT NEED TO CODE TO USE RSS
Bluesky is the one supposed to do the coding, not users.
there is absolutely no justification nor rationalization for using #Bluesky. NONE WHATSOEVER. Bluesky is the “gentler, kindler” #nazi bar that will burn down whole forests, dry up all rivers instead of using open web standards.

From navigation to cheating in exams, early adopters of AI glasses in China are renting them for as little as $6 a day. Some models offer live translation, real-time calorie tracking, and theater-like movie experiences, but not everyone is sold on the new tech, even as the government encourages citizens to buy it.

Grammarly quietly made an #AI to sell bad writing advice using famous writers' names. They quickly had to backtrack as soon as people found out.
This gamble reflects a broader trend in the #tech industry: everyone is shipping features as quickly as an #LLM can write lines of code, with no way to spot problems until something breaks or someone sues them.
Vibe prototyping replaced thinking through things. But without direction, moving faster is worthless.

RE: xoxo.zone/@ilovecomputers/1162…
No, seriously - I can't possibly overstate the value in my life that has come from the internet or how it has enriched me.
Like Ed Zitron & @pluralistic have both written about at various times, I'm not mad at technology - I'm fucking furious at the fuckfaces who deliberately ruined it, just so they could squat their ignoble asses upon a mountain of riches like the shittiest, saddest little saggy dragons imaginable.
A message especially for my Canadian male followers out there today, but it applies to all.
If you see a story from a woman calling out the behaviour of a man, believe them. Yes, believe them over the 'bro’, especially when there are multiple corroborating stories.
Don’t feign impartiality.
Don't ignore.
Just believe them, it's not that hard.
It's long past time we do this as the default.
It will make us all better in the long run.
That is all.
The product delivery lifecycle is composed of service relationships. AI's main value proposition is freedom from relationships.
When designers champion AI tools, we are not making ourselves layoff-proof. We are reinforcing a system that frames us as unnecessary friction.
If we don't want to serve as janitors for vibe prototypes, We must invest in deliberately designing the service relationships that make up the PDLC.

There's a new "design is dead, because AI" piece (thinly disguised marketing from Anthropic). But looking past the hype headlines, their claims cover purely production-stage tasks.
When it comes to the work of understanding user needs and evaluating the opportunity space, AI actually makes your thinking worse. Studies show that it alienates you from users and colleagues, and flattens your thinking.
We need more human-centered practice, not less.

Digg's short-lived reboot is on pause, and a sizeable proportion of staff is being laid off, but the story isn't over. Founder Kevin Rose sold the company in 2012 but repurchased it, alongside Alexis Ohanian, in 2025, relaunching it in open beta in January 2026 as "the front page of the internet, now with superpowers." However, it was pulled from the app store today, with CEO Justin Mezzell citing the "brutal reality of finding product fit" and an "unprecedented bot problem." What now? Rose will return to Digg full time to figure out next steps. Here's @Sarahp's story for @Techcrunch.

I feel like there is a real desire for better tech out there.
The reason I am saying this is that I would never have expected that this little side project that is technically-good.ca/ would draw this much engagement - and I don't mean the quick-hit types of engagement, like likes and boosts.
I mean *real people* writing in with questions, comments, concerns. Creatives saying how an article really resonated with them, folks asking how they can help their friend group migrate to a less shitty platform, many others.
And I'm just running a tiny blog that's been up for only a few months!
I am very encouraged by these responses. We have momentum right now and it feels like something is shifting.
If you have a blog, post content critical of AI and the established algorithmic platforms, or provide tips for using alternatives - KEEP IT UP. ✊🏼Even if you think you are just one small person. Change is happening!
